How to Sew Blanket Stitch

Blanket stitch is one of my favourites. It instantly can make a piece of knitting look more homely. You can use it to edge a piece of single knitting, and it will help stop the edges from curling. It can also be a handy way to join two layers.

Join your wool onto the edge of your knitting

Make a stitch next to the first

Again I used the knitting to space my stitches evenly.

The wool is wound around the back of the needle

Then pull through

Repeat, and you have made a lovely edging to your knitting

It is very simple to go around corners. Have a look at my Red Admiral Butterfly, which uses this stitch. I have also used it on felt on my Rainbow of Owl pattern.
